In May 2012, the new Saldome2 building of the Swiss company Salt Works on the Rhine AG was officially put into operation. With a span length of 120 m (394 ft) and a height of 31.6 m (104 ft), the salt storage is the biggest dome structure in Europe. It was designed and built by Häring, a Swiss company specializing in timber technology. The structural analysis was performed by Häring engineers R. Schneider and C. Zihlmann, using the Dlubal Software programs RSTAB and TIMBER Pro.
Radoslav Dimitrov, a civil engineering student, took advantage of RSTAB when writing his paper, for which he analyzed a stadium roof. The object of the paper was to design a stadium for soccer matches and athletic sports events, offering space for an audience of 70,000 people. The framework of the roof is a tubular steel structure with 17,791 members in total.
